Broadsword is literally peddling the worst version of Ultima Online by a substantial margin. The client everyone wishes they would make, that combines EC features with CC graphics, a smooth framerate, modern resolution, and meaningful quality of lif…

This is actually a pretty good article.

Lord_Frodo said: @ Lord_Nythrax have you used the EC and if so did it take care of the size/resolution problem? IMHO I would love to use the EC with the CC graphics and again IMHO that would fix a lot of problems in UO and only the cheaters …

A lot of these guys don't realize that they're paying to play the absolute worst version of the client. Like it's not even close. Once you see the CC artwork actually moving around on a properly sized screen with a fluid framerate, the retail CC is …

I'd settle for the same FPS the game used to have. At some point it actually got worse and became more choppy than it was originally. Some fix required to keep it running on modern Windows messed something up.

By "cheaty stuff" I mean it's got all the usual scripting crap built in. Lots of people who aren't especially interested in scripting nevertheless use it because it's just a much better experience overall, even if all you do is smack ettins and bank…

The client he's talking about is sort of like a painstakingly cleaned up and improved EC, but with CC graphics and a ton of quality-of-life improvements even outside of the "cheaty" stuff. It's the client everyone here wishes Broadsword would have m…

Yeah the EC isn't anywhere close to a viable solution. Their internal EM/GM clients are CC, as are all the promotional videos they make. It's an ugly pile of crap and even they don't use it for anything.

They need to do something, the retail clients are not viable products at this point.

A whole new generation of players going "Why is the play field three inches across?" and logging out to play something else. It's one thing to just give up on client updates forever, it's another to expect people to use them. If I set my PC resoluti…

Being forced to substantially lower your PC's resolution just to have a gameplay field large enough to see is unacceptable. Having a framerate lower than it was 20 years ago is unacceptable. I'm not even going to comment on the EC, even the develope…

Adapting it would probably take their one programmer another two years.

Broadsword has completely abdicated client development and it really, really, really shows. I can name multiple freeshard clients vastly superior to the obsolete dilapidated retail clients.
