Kyronix - Please turn ATL spawn WAY up

No wonder Mondain and the dark forces never seem to win; this trickle of spawn is what they call an invasion?? Hah! I've seen more overwhelming invasions of ants at a picnic than the undead in the ATL towns so far. Thou art no match for thee!

All kidding aside tho  @Kyronix - As you probably guessed we need much more spawn on ATL for our players as the local bot trains run through with their thrower/archers and destroy everything on screen. The scaling doesn't seem to be "scaled" enough as I'm struggling to find more than 1 or 2 things on screen (and that's before the bot trains rolls through).

I understand if you guys are still feeling things out but currently 45min and only 7 drops doesn't seem worth the time for me (I'd probably support local bots at that rate) and it definitely does not make me want to use any glorious potions.

Please crank ATL spawn up and let's see what our shard can fight back!!

Please make all the mobs paragon on LS!

Agree 100%, as a tamer the stuff is dead before I can even get on target and all kill :(
  • It's early afternoon on a Tuesday, you can forget about this crap in anything resembling primetime. How do they keep stepping on this rake? Why are they always surprised Atlantic has people on it?

Which town were you battling in?

Also to note the spawn scales with the number of players present.

I started on Vesper Atlantic, it was very slow, everything like they are saying, then the spawn went up and up, and tbh, it was almost too much by the end, but you can never have too much, so it was fine, I saw the scaling up happening.

It was slightly laggy, but Atlantic is not my home shard.

Get Europa up and running, and Atlantic will be fine, it is only bad because us Europeans are playing there out of boredom :)

We've been monitoring it all day - we've identified some potential solutions and will update UO.com when they are deployed.

On related note: @Kyronix can you have the left over undead mobs despawn after the invasion in a town ends?  During the invasion of Trammel Britain on Pacific this morning I was there when the invasion ended but the left over undead mobs were still there and I was unable to use area spells like chain lightning to kill them.

    Thank you <3
Let's keep the fingers crossed this solves all of the issues and we can farm like there is no tomorrow

Quick update - the spawn seems to be scaling MUCH better now than the first invasion of the day. The first town was Jhelom and it was super slow. I did Skara and that was much better. There is sizeable lag but I'm happy with there is at least spawn to kill and I'm even seeing people die (probably from lag lol).

@Kyronix  Dont change a thing on LS!   We fight constantly for an hour in each city.  Lots of spawn lots of paragons.  I can stay within 2 screens and just kill kill kill.

    Great Event Thanks

So at the same time people are complaining about lag on Atlantic, it's being requested the spawn rate get turned up. And the solution is to take away the loot that falls on all the dead mobs on all the shards? I just can't even deal with this ridiculousness.
  • RadstRadst Posts: 110
For NON-ATL shards: spawn density REALLY need to increase x2!! Vesper Trinsic Yew is so EMPTY when there's only a handful of players. That's 90% running and a lot of opening doors. ANNOYING and waste of time.

I did Minoc this morning on Atlantic. It wasn't a very laggy nor smooth town to begin with, but, this morning (post hotfix) it was moderately choppy. So for Minoc the fix seemingly had a negligible effect... and wasn't even prime time. I hope you guys are still monitoring or have ideas. The Shogun spawns last year on Atlantic went insane with spawn and there was little to no server side lag, even during the most busy prime time hours. Something is wrong with these cities.

@Kyronix ;  Following up on username's post above. I hope the devs will continue to monitor the situation to gage whether the hotfix is working as intended. If not, please consider reinstating lootable bodies and try an alternate solution to the lag issues on Atlantic. If lootable bodies were not a problem during other ToT events, what is different about this event that is causing the issue? Please continue the investigation and don't assume that this Hotfix was the solution.

Bodies decay quickly in ToTs. People complain about not being able to res and get stolen items back.

Non of those bodies had significant gold like some invasion mobs have.

“Significant gold” is a relative term. What you might not stoop to loot might be an amount someone else would always take the trouble to loot.

Either way it’s ridiculous to take the opportunity to loot and make some gold away from casual players who depend on looting bodies to gather gold.

The looting, even if it’s just seeing the loot and not taking anything, is part of the feel good visceral response your little PvM victory brings. It shouldn’t be taken away.

Was there dead bodies during the sails event? Void pool was holding great under stress considering the fact that everyone was there.

Maybe it's the monster type that is making this event lag more? Someone in another thread mentioned that monsters teleporting around might be the cause.

I've posted this in the other thread but I'll post it here perhaps @Kyronix will see this:

Something is wrong with these towns, and the fact they're on large subservers with hundreds/thousands of houses with thousands of items inside each of them, NPCs, neutral animals spawning, etc. surely doesn't help reduce lag. Remember Shogun ToT this time last year? Winter Spur had more people in a tiny area with more spawn and it wasn't as bad. I'd guess if this ToT was in some unused area of the map on it's own subserver all to itself it would be smooth as silk.

I'm 99% sure the larger hashed lines on this map are subservers:
    https://uo.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/trammel_all_lines.jpg
Gee I wonder why Trinsic, Skara, Nujelm are all laggy (well they all are but especially those 3). It's all one subserver, look what one server has to handle on Altantic!

@Kyronix - I understand you guys are in a tough spot with this, but I feel like (speaking to ATL only) the spawn still needs turned up. The lag has been reduced by removing the corpses (imo) but I think all this did was make it smoother for the bot trains to run their 4/5/6 archer/thrower accounts spamming AI. I've now been to Jhelm/Yew/Trinsic/Skara and I'm barely able to get a spell off or run up to a mob to get a hit before they come through and everything else is dead.

Please go check out Atlantic right now. You have a handful of people (assuming bots) camping at the fires for the spawn and automatically hitting AI on anything that pops on the screen and then you have the bot trains of 4-6 accounts lead by one sampire targeting everything on the screen. I feel like I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 things spawn on the screen I can hit before they auto target an spam AI; most stuff is gone as I run on the screen. The only real chance I have is that they don't go into the building/shops and a few things gather but they seem to be hitting those spots too. The other annoying thing about it is that it seems like the only things they DONT stay and kill are the paragons; likely bc they take a couple seconds longer and they can get more drops just running around. So what's left is them essentially luring paragon steeds/LL/gargs on people.

I'm not asking for an overhaul or mass banning...I'd just like some consideration on increasing the spawn rate so it actually feels like an invasion. I think at least with the corpses showing (and the lag) there was a feeling of the invasion overtaking me, whereas now the only threat is that a bot train drags a few paragons that all target me.... the regular monsters aren't an actual threat because they can't accumulate enough to do anything.

Spawn rate is still lacking, needs some upping (Atlantic perspective), thus making drop rate a bit lackluster. Even peak prime time can be a bit slow with the spawn.

It sounds like the lag is still overwhelming while the spawn is still underwhelming.

I was hoping to start doing the event in the weekend. Let's keep fingers crossed there is a new patch today :)

Eh. I wouldn't go that far. The lag makes gameplay a bit slow at times. It's like playing a game with 150 ping when you're used to 20 - it's not unplayable but not ideal either. Spawn is like 75% of what it should be. And honestly, they should just push it to the limits. It's a damn invasion anyways, it SHOULD be difficult, we SHOULD die, we SHOULD get pushed out of the cities at times. My opinion, anyways.

You're probably good to go even if they don't change it much. Sucks, but it seems like they're really pushing us to buy Potions to get that last few % to make it on par with last handful of ToTs, as we've clearly seen with the Totems to get the colored nightmares.

    (Atlantic perspective)

Spawn is really sparse. It does not look like an invasion, it is more like extermination with the amount of players at Atlantic. It reminds me of playing whac a mole. You spend more time running than killing stuff.

@Kyronix - Come to ATL Vesper (Tram). There isn't enough spawn in my opinion. 3 or 4 things on the screen where 2-3 people are and it's killed immediately. Can we get 2-3 mobs PER PERSON spawn to make it feel like an invasion? I'm writing this post as I sit in the middle of Vesper and have no fear of actually dying because there isn't enough spawn.

Edit*** It's now in NuJelm.... and the spawn is even slower (so far) on Atlantic
  • Yeah this is a mass game of whack-a-mole on Atlantic, with monsters being obliterated instantly by hordes of players, unless you go late at night. Kind of boring.

I know adding massive amounts more spawn would probably make the lag worse again, so how about stronger spawn? When the populations scaling tops out, add some rotting corpses or something.
