****Governorship Idea****

I have been a Governor a few times. Once I even fought for Governorship against someone who brought in others from other shards to vote by paying them off. It is no fun to lose to people who have paid for votes and then they don't participate in the meetings, nor coordinate their town bonus to help the citizens of their town much less the land as a whole. This seems to happen again and again. A Governor's position is one of great importance and duty and to help with this lack of respect for home shards, I recommend the following suggestions to help maintain, retain and entertain.

Why ya gripin' No I have not participated in a Gov race in quite a few years. Then why ya gripin'! It's my right and duty to stand up for others. :)

A Governor once placed in office must complete the following to maintain their seat.

  1. Maintain a clean city.
  2. Keep the riffraff off the streets.
  3. Keep the pest (rats etc) population down.
  4. Beautification by watering certain plants.
  5. Putting out fires.
  6. Being present for meetings.
  7. anyone?
  8. anyone?

They will gain an extra word to their Governorship Title to how well they do, or don't do in maintaining the city in these numbers areas such as Esteemed, Valued, etc etc or badly... the Heinous Gov.

When it comes time to re-up for the seat, if they don't meet a base qualifier they will either NOT be able to run again for any town, or be required to receive X times the amount of votes to win any town.

example for 3 times the votes

new person has 10 votes

bad incumbent would need 33 votes to win if they are a horrible Gov.

This notoriety would not leave the account or fade with time. The system would stick with that account and they could only raise it by becoming Gov once again to clear their name.

There is already a system in place for this partially from an event where we had to arrest people, and clean up trash, put out fires and making other mini quests for the Gov would not/should not be difficult.

Honestly a Governor Seat should have responsibility to it and would give more ownership of a town and would be fun.

If someone is so ill or cannot maintain their duties to their town for whatever other reason (no disrespect meant), they should resign to save their reputation so they can run again at a later time.

It could be a quest line that they will take repeatedly on a cycle of time and fill up dots like virtues.

These of course are just ideas and The Gov would have to complete these on their own. NO HELP FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY!!!!

Any other suggestions? :)

  • As governor of Moonglow, I go through town once or twice a day and pick up escorts ... you see me rolling ... Make sure the lamps are filled, pick up any trash etc. We also have the same town buff we've had forever because we are a town of mages and we like spell damage LOL.

I wish we could beautify the cities. Magincia can ... they can plant plants just about anywhere. The EM for our shard won't really place things down unless there is a RP story behind it. I would love to be able to choose from a variety of things on the bank or in the park.  I was surprised that the stone had inventory and things spawned in it. I use it to hold starter runebooks, spellbooks, LRC suits, etc. Everything the budding mage might need. When I see a new or returning player or just someone hanging about the city needing help, I can just pick a bag out and give it to them.

As for the meetings ... I just missed one because I thought today was the day but it was yesterday LOL. It happens. I think of the governorship thing as an unofficial ambassadorship ... to welcome back old players, get new players settled etc. The meetings are important but I think you have to put the work in all the time, not just once a month.

The events that we do ... they do take time to set up. I don't think people realize how much work goes into them. Even something that sounds simple like a white net toss ... how many white nets do you just have laying around to try to and pull the big guy?? Lady Mel or Medusa runs and the like ... they require keys. The Void Pool is pretty easy to host but there is usually so much death LOL. And, as the host, I spend most of my time healing and rezzing and looking out for people who have not hunted with us before. It's a lot of work because you want people to have a great time and you want them to enjoy your events.

I also maintain a list of house spots ... not that it's a big issue on our shard but if someone would like to live on our happy little island ... I can point out spaces of all sizes and storage. Not everyone wants a huge plot. For us, it's often nostalgia or they just want a place close to the gate or close to town or close to water and I can point out the houses. I try to put up temporary locations so that people can see how handy they are to live in. Right now, I have a public repair and dye house just south of Moonglow that I will gladly sell to someone for the cost of the plot if they want to live in Moonglow. I had the Moonglow Gardens in a different spot until someone expressed an interest in in it. I moved the gardens to another nice spot and that location is also available for the price of the plot. I would like to see all these "public" spots filled with players who play. I have the spot just south of Moonglow and I maintain that as an official residence. When I'm not governor anymore, I'll offer it to the next governor. If they don't want it, I'll either sell it for the price of the plot or just drop it.

    1. Yes. Easy to do.
    2. Yes but I think it should be proportional. Moonglow isn't as big as Brit, for example. So, maybe I just need to take five riffraff to their new homes (FYI, I drop ALL my escorts off in the target city's governor's office) and Brit would need to take 10 riffraff to their new homes.
    3. Yes but ... again we are looking at Brit. Moonglow doesn't have many rats. We have mongbats, but, they keep the fleas down. It would have to be proportional and city specific.
    4. No. I already spend enough time taking care of my own plants. It would be nice if there was an area inside each city that the governor could lock stuff down in. This would make auctions in town possible, or maybe a vendor fair or an actual artisan fair with actual players possible or ... something.
    5. No. I put out enough metaphorical fires IRL.
    6. Yes and no. Yes, it's important but you know ... real life.
    7. I would like to piggy back on the beautification with the trade orders. I am more than happy to run and ask people to run trade orders in order to get IDK ... green hedges instead of black. A plant. Some flowers. I'd love to see the city treasury tied to beautification options. Like a menu in the stone like the cleanup dude ... for 1000000 gold in trade runs you get xyz options. Why doesn't Moonglow, the city of mages WITH an eleven representative permanently ensconced, have an arcane circle?????? WHY?? That was the very first thing I asked for and the very first thing they told me no on. Why? WHY?? That one still irks me. I mean ... WHY?????
    8. The biggest things for me are a) not being able to lock anything down in the city and b) lack of interaction by the EM. IDK how much of it is from higher up and, frankly, I don't care. I hear about things other EMs are doing on other shards and it makes me sad that we don't have that. Is it the player base or is it the EM? I don't know but both make me sad.
    9. I'd like to see some sort of interaction between Trammel and Felucca. Reds are people too yall! IDK about you but when I think of Moonglow, I think of the whole island, not just the city. We have a portal to the lost lands. We are close to other cities by boat.

If you tied it to trade runs, then not just the governors would have to do it. And really, isn't that what you want? Input and interaction between the people who use your city for all their needs? If the proposed project is not wanted by the peeps then they won't do the trade runs.

I've been on both sides of the buying vote issue. The last election, I was unopposed. Thank goodness. I literally did not have it in me for a big election. I may not survive the next one because I left my alliance. But, that's okay .. the people will speak and even if they speak with other people's gold well ... then there you have it :)

    As governor of Moonglow.....

All grand! see you would have a high notoriety! Outstanding ownership!

I was thinking some simple plant boxes that would need tending, nothing grand.
My sever now does only 6 Gov meetings a year now. every other month, (at my last knowing, it could have gone ↑ or ↓ by now)

A Governor after me own heart. gotta keep them escorts busy so they can pay the "Entertainment Tax"
    A Goblin, a Gargoyle, and a Drow walk into a bar . . .

Never be afraid to challenge the status quo
