Please add cellular two step authentication to EJ accounts

This would fix so many of the problems we're running into, especially by limiting one account per phone number. It would make running script bots a lot harder automation-wise, and would help lower the amount of spammed in EJ accounts.

If they're creating more for space, they're already going around the intention of the game mechanics for EJ, so it becomes a moot point.

Having this makes it so you can trace via cell number and easily block out bot accounts. Since there's authentication occurring, you know that they are actually having to interact every time with a functioning phone as well. No MAC/IP spoofing to get around it.

And what about "burner" phones ?

Ain't it possible to buy X burner phones with different numbers to accomodate whatever X number of EJ accounts one might have ?

You can set up Google voice with a dedicated # that also sends and receives text.

I'm not sure if it's intended or not but you can set up EJ accounts without any verification. You don't even need a real email address.

The thing is, right now you can freely create one with zero authentication or anything else. Burner phones cost money and force a lot of extra spending if you're just generating accounts to bot. It does a huge number on the botter's bottom line and makes it much less viable to even attempt scripting.

Just remember and I am not supporting EJ, but some UO players live quite a distance from UO (out of the US) and companies won/t call internationally to verify.
  • Subscribers would already have credit card info in, so they could be given an opt-out if they really weren't worried about it. There are very few people that would be playing UO who don't have access to a cell phone, especially someone just dabbling to find a new game to play.

Two step verification has nothing to do with a phone call, it is a simple text message. The code received is then put into the client to log in. This verifies a human is typing in the datapoint from an existing phone number.

Literally the only reason anyone wouldn't be able to do this is that they don't actually own a cellphone (again, they could subscribe in this case, or get a burner phone just for verification). Country really has nothing to do with it, as your carrier makes you incur charges for texts received.

There are players that do not use a CC for subscriptions. Instead, they buy timecodes from Origin and use that for their accounts. Since Mythic days, there are many that do not trust the account security for CC - especially since it is being revamped Soon™

If you really want an honest answer to your question then maybe you should address your concerns to EA as they are the ones that run Account Management not BS/DAoC/UO and please do not hold your breath waiting for an answer as we are still waiting on the Account Management update
  • Regardless of whether it's a credit card or a code, its still costing them money they didn't have to invest before to bot, and that's the important part. Tear up their bottom line and they won't be able to run them as easily.

It sucks that EA mistreats this game, it'd be such an easy cashcow to milk with just a little updating and customer service. Can still keep the game looking the nice classic feel and draw a bit more of a crowd without causing problems if they'd just invest a little more into it.
