Umbrascale Ascendant training question...

A question to the expert UO tamers out there...

I understand that, the Umbrascale Ascendant comes with Innate Magery which, if one wants to change it to Chivalry , has a cost of 501 training points which, for a pet that (if lucky) spawns at 4 slots and has only 1,500 training points available, is a very costly choice...

My question therefore is, is it really worth it to change the (free) Innate Magery into a costly Chivalry Magic Ability for a Chiv+AI Umbrascale Ascendant ?

Leaving instead the Innate Magery and using the 501 training points elsewhere, will not help train a better pet then a Chiv+AI one ?

Yes, I understand that the Umbrascale Ascendant comes with a good base damage of 29-35 ... but only Chiv+AI will make good use of this high base damage ? Innate Magery won't ?

29-35 base dmg and over 1k strenght? Doing magery, instead of ennemy of one? You ain't optimise.
Is it possible to go magery for more resist/stats? sure.. it kinda defy the purpose tho, but u could make it work depend for what, how u playing it, with whom.. etc.. (same answer as the pack of hound u wanted to roll with less than 5)

Just picture this pet with a rune beetle + a tanky pet (3 tamers team)

Personally as solo, I would start with a scrappy Juvenile (more all around) and optimize the umbra asc. in time as a one trick poney for a specific team composition or content.. cuz I usually hate the glass canon as a solo for most of the content.. Dead we dealing no dmg.

So rather than recognise the effort the botters went to, to set all that up - for the benefit of the players, to help get certain items, something you could never be bothered to do, you would rather drag people backwards to your neanderthal world?

Leave attended paying accounts alone, these people go thru a lot of trouble to automate the game.

It’s comical to me you are so frightened of somehow bod scripters get some sort of advantage.

    Grab any pet with Magery.

Go All Attack something out of melee reach; a flying unit or water monster should be good for the test.

Look how much damage/spell your pets is doing/casting. Consider their Eval/INT/mana pool, you could try to add more using CAH tools to compare the data.
On top of that, consider a couple healing/cure/bless.

If magery was any good, we would all have Serpentine Dragons.  How many of those do you see?

And No, Magical pets were changed in the second week of Pub 97.  They melee first, do very little spell casting from afar.  They would need the AI adjusted for the player to be a tank and the pet fight behind him.

@popps ; let us know in 10 years when you get that thing to 100% and you have tested the different magics on TC.  We will have AI/Chiv everything until then.  Just like my melee toons...  I think we figured out the best damages many years ago.
Focus on what you can do, not what you can't.

The hammer ain't always the best solution. Without a good pet with magery I would have never been able to enter the underwater dungeon.. freaking black ancient wyrm perching outside the map.

Then, why on earth did the Developers choose to make the Umbrascale Ascendant come with Innate Magery ?

What is the point of introducing a new pet with an unwanted and useless Magical Ability, if I may ask ?

@Violet , any idea of why this new pet came with a useless Magical Ability ?

:D  Its a Dragon. They are magical .

Many new NL pets are coming pre built with the base pet stats, and do not have Magery.

Get the new Dragon from the Egg!  It has nothing but healing!

The Mature Dragon egg.  It is rare tho.
