24 Hour Wait on Securely Replacing a House

Whyyyyy?

Why we gotta wait 24 hours between tries on seeing what we want for a style keep or castle? Was this timer always a thing? I don't remember it always being so.

If you're gonna make us wait like that can you please set up each of the styles permanently on TC? You can't tell until you walk around in these buildings if you're really going to like how it works for you.

I really don't want to traipse all over the countryside trying to find all the various styles and hope they're set to public so you can check out the layout.

Why? WhyWhyWhy?

I currently have to wait 24251 more seconds before I can try another style. It's already been way too many seconds, and there's still way too many more seconds to wait. That's not fun.

that and the 24 hour transfer cooldown following a 'Character Copy" to Test Center... both annoying and seemingly pointless.
Remove or change casting focus & poison immunity it reduces the need for "Player Skill" it's garbage. rant2 Bring timing back and eliminate chance in pvp!

Agreed. @Community Manager would you be able to shed any light on why there’s a 24 hour timer on changing a house style?

I can’t really shed any light on why, but I do know it’s been something talked about many times before at meet and greets.
I can definitely ask the dev team and see if there’s any light they can shed on it. :)

That’d be great to have some info on why or if it’s necessary.

Maybe you could ask if it might be possible to add the various styles to an area on TC so players can see what they’re like before making a choice?

If there wasn’t a 24 hour timer I wouldn’t care at all, but if you’re not familiar with these designs and you want to try a few on for size it’s a real pain.

Seriously, if you want to check out 7 different styles it’s going to take you a full week? And in the meantime all your house contents are stuck in the moving crate? That’s not only inconvenient, it’s nerve wracking.

    Thanks very much!

Can you ask them to take the timer off of the house placement tool in general, because clearly it is not impacting the people it was originally supposed to, and it's only causing problems for those of us out looking for housing spots.

I do appreciate those pages very much, Mariah. I was poring over them again and again, but I guess for me I can't really tell if I like a design as much as I think I might unless I can walk around in it.

I've tried a couple styles that I thought I'd like, then didn't like them as much once I saw more detail close up and could see how it flowed to move around in. Thus my frustration with having to wait so long to try another style.

In my heart of hearts I know I, and probably many others who really enjoy playing with UO artwork, won't love any keep or castle design that's available as much as I'd like being able to create my own design for myself.

I wish we could get past the worry Bonnie had that people would ruin the landscape with Borg cubes if we had the ability to customize our own keep or castle plots.

Some people like to spend money on totems for a chance to find rare color pets. I'd lay down a chunk of cash to buy customizable castle and keep spots.

    :)
Thank you again for the links!

I think the concern about customizable castles and keeps was lag.  I would give anything for a customizable keep, but I’m surrounded by castles and keeps and it’s bad enough.  I went with Robin’s Nest - not perfect for me but matches with crafted stone walls and is different enough from most.  I say that and within three screens I have two other Robin’s Nest keeps.

How does a committed custom design vary from  a house placed using a house placement tool in terms of lag? I’ve no idea. There’s a difference?

I thought contents in houses loading when you run on the screen was what caused lag issues for some. And with the ability to choose whether or not contents load that problem was solved for those who have trouble with lag. No? Maybe I have that wrong, I’m not sure.

If we are still worried about lag in 2025 we have issues
