Defiler's grasp kinda ugly

Im my opinion, of the most beautiful parts of UO is the character customization. I don't think any other rpg has come close to the ability of UO to have very unique characters (aside from all carrying a dbl ax), but everything else is dyed parrots on shoulders, pigments, and with transmog stuff has really allowed some really cool avatars.

However, I got the defiler's grasp from killing demon meatballs and I love the luck and resist but am I right that there is not any "look" customizing for it. Also, I don't think there are belt slot transmog is there?? I'd love to move its properties to a leather ninja belt or something.

But at the very least, dye it. Why won't any dye work on it? Am I missing something?? Will the uo shop dyes work on it?

No the store pigments will not work.  Plant dyes will not work.

    Is this Intended @Community Manager

Please allow Defiler's Grasp to be dyed.  At least with plant dyes.

There's another belt that I noticed uses a very similar artwork. I can't think of what it is called. I wonder if that one can be dyed. I don't have one to test, but it has like HP increase on it or something. They look almost identical.

Mark of the destroyer. It can be dyed, but only part of it.

So, may be in part to the design of the artwork?? I guess it is a little wonky. Can I transmog it? I don't think I'm seeing belt slot potion on the store. Is that what Im supposed to be looking for? Why wouldn't there be a belt slot potion?

It just seems odd that is the intent... like there are so many dyes and tubs and pigments and just a whole pretty awesome system in UO of customizations and then there is this... this weird gold looking belt trinket thing that sits above my characters crotch that can't be dyed or changed or anything.

They should have made them a color associated with the resistance instead all the same if that was the intent.

Working as intended can also mean they don't want to change it right now for resource reasons.  The item is not causing problems.

But not allowing them to be dyed means, it's low on a future list.

I'd rather have transmogable top hat targets.

Definitely would like to see a lot more items and other slots transmogrofiableized, top hat included.

I've wanted to see us be able to transmogrify gorgets since we've first been able to transmogrify anything at all. We've had necklaces in the game since day one. We've had other artwork for necklaces come along since, but they're purely decorative and of no use when building a suit. I feel like most of my characters have been wearing turtle necks forever.

I think I have a laundry list at this point of things I'd like to see us be able to dye.  That said, I'd hate to see items like the Defiler's Grasp be dye-able, but the time not taken in making sure the item retains its details. I'd rather leave it as it is than have it end up looking all one solid color when dyed and all the detail in the artwork lost.

Good point. Actually, my first idea was to just transmog it. I agree that finding a dye color was not going to be easy. In my head, dyed it was still not what I wanted but when I wasn’t finding a transmog potion I started looking at dying.

I read where there were some exploits with the transmog system. Rumor or not, that was “their” explanation of the way the transmog system was rolled out. It is a little weird because youd think it would be pretty solid. I understand if say I put the properties of a high end gorget on a pair of boots then there are problems but it seems the first vulnerability code would be to ensure slot 2 slot. After that I don’t really see why the artwork for the slot couldn’t be a necklace instead which is the whole idea. I think the good news is that UO even allows it and it is already a thing. I see them expanding this one day. We could be sitting here saying “oh man, wouldnt it be cool if we could turn this robe into something else”. I just hate it didn’t already include all basic slots. I also read where parry items could only be transmoged to other parry items but I swear I thought Id seen lanterns or candles with shield properties. Was I mistaken? Can you transmog a shield property to an item other than a shield? If so, then they updated after the first release.

I don't know what the ins and outs of it are @azuldemogogu

I wish it were as simple as, this is a headpiece I like the properties of, I'm gonna put it on this headpiece I like the look of more.

There have been certain items introduced specifically to be transmogrification targets:
    • Lantern of Protection (Treasures of Demonic Forces)
    • Hildebrandt Shield (25 year Veteran Reward)
    • Ruckus Rum  (The Black Market Merchant)
    • Wand of Warding (Treasures of Demonic Forces).
    • Feudal kabuto (Treasures of the Feudal Lords)
Bake Kitsune Hat from Huntmaster's Challenge, while introduced before transmogrification, is also a valid target.

Is there anything to watch out for, like, something that can make you lose your potion if you try to use it on a certain thing or another? I thought I'd read somewhere along the line that they tried to use the potion on an item that couldn't be transmogrified but they lost the potion in the process too. That'd suck.

Same here. It seems so restrictive that I didn’t want to buy potions and have something like that happen or really worse for me, it not do what Im wanting such as you can’t do that or that item can’t be changed. So, the potions just sit around until I try something else that I feel may be worthwhile. Then, it is like using coupons at the store until I use it on some stupid crap.

The good news for me is that it wouldn’t be a total loss and Im supporting the game I love if I spend a few bucks in the uo store.

However, Im kinda enjoying diving into the look of my character. I was away for years and came back 1 year ago and when I played 20+ years ago, Id slap a death robe on dye it and go. I didn’t do much to my paperdoll. Everything is so cool but a lot to figure out so these forums are nice so I know that Im not just missing something.
