When is Dexterity Needed?

Greetings! I’m returning after nearly 25 years away from the game and trying to get caught up on all the changes. My noob question is are there any skills that get a dexterity bonus other than combat and healing? Specifically, I’m training a new bard character and wondering if using discord/peace/provoke does a dexterity check at any point. Similarly, do any of the crafting skills require dexterity? Thanks!

I like at least 10 or more stamina so I can keep moving when hit

Thanks, but I already read that. It’s a good basic overview but doesn’t go into detail on which stats are factored into algorithms for skill use.

Understood. My veteran characters all had at least 25 from back when individual stats were capped at 100. I have one dexxer who has now learned chivalry (which wasn’t a thing back then), but for all my other chars it sounds like I should be okay putting extra stat points into STR or INT. Does that make sense?

A lot depends on build and with today's equipment very easy to add lots of extra of everything

Welcome back to UO! There is no reason related to game-mechanics to include Dexterity in your character build unless your character has one of the three needs:
    1) weapon swing speed
    2) parry
    3) self use of Healing skill with bandages

Although it may seem odd to put minimum Dexterity into your Bard template it is proper min/max under the current system.

    1) Dexterity = base Stamina, which controls weapon swing speed. Essential for higher DPS with weapons.

    2) Parry chance starts to head to zero, (even at 100 or 120 skill on the character) as your Dex stat falls below 80. This makes caster (magery/mystic) templates with Parry skill a niche rather than mainstream.

    3) Time to self-apply on bandages is optimal at 100+ Dex for characters with Healing skill (I do not believe this applies to using Healing on other players or Veterinary on pets).

    Hope you enjoy your return!
