Suggestion to the devs - Gold sinks on New Legacy

Hey devs,
We're suffering from a lack of gold sinks on New Legacy.
Because there's no PKing and people can just relog to get their stuff back, there isn't enough of an "item loss" going on so that people need more gold to fund their expenses. Everyone will have tens of millions of gold within a couple of months.

We therefore need gold sinks. Could you share what's on the roadmap that gold might be used on? Otherwise, here's some suggestions I thought of:

- Congiarium advancement. Similar to crafters having to do BODs, adventurers could donate large amounts of gold to count towards advancing the congiarium;

- Opening dungeons. You have a lot of room to play with in terms of developing and improving the gameplay experience. If you have the manpower, you could perhaps create server-wide events where people need to donate large amounts of gold+resources to open some of the closed dungeons;

- Store items. You could open the UO store and put items that will or won't transfer to production servers once the Shattering happens. Could be anything really: dyes/cosmetics, house decorations, etc;

- Better housing. This is a really sticking point, only having 7x7 houses. Is there absolutely no leeway in giving us the option to buy some bigger houses? If not keeps/castles then at least some of the more interesting ones. One of the most fun things in UO is getting a house and decorating it. Having a tiny 7x7 doesn't leave much room... I'm sure a lot of players would like to get bigger housing and this would be a great gold sink. Perhaps make them really expensive so that it becomes a big sink?;

Either way, just some thoughts. I'm sitting at almost 1 million gold already and it's only been 1 week. There's nothing to save for and no one sells anything that is important (like pet knowledge or lures). Something's gotta give?

Thanks for listening!

    Is this why I'm always broke?  We need more to spend money on?

    No perks to the rich. Be generous and you wont have this problem.  I have many things scheduled to buy.  You need a gold sink?  I'll spend it.

    I've made 2 guys.  I can't even afford a house for one of them.  I have saved up 32k for that.   But if I see something shiney....

    Your comment is highly situational in time and descriptive of a situation on a new server. What about in a month's time? I'm thinking long term. Fast track your development, and you'll find you have no gold sinks for either character. Drops are abundant and they can't be lost because there's no PKing and you can instantly retrieve whatever you were wearing when you died. There will be nearly no purpose to gold within a month's time if we don't have more ways to spend it.

    Please, we're not all rich. I don't need to find anything to sink gold into.

    I know a good gold sink, tax the rich.

    Not everyone can make that much gold or keen to grind on Legacy for that, since it's transient.

    We want events for fun and rewards from there that we can bring home to production for memory of the first Legacy shard, and showoff.

    If I need to grind 100000000 GP to buy a reward, I will go back production.
    If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    Spot on with needing a gold sink of sorts. I don’t know about your suggestions, but this was in large the problem with regular shards. Gold sinks should be optional and aesthetic,

    Nothing the OP said was essential and/or game breaking. So no “need” for anyone to grind

    I'd recommend re-reading my post as it's clear you missed the point. I did not ask for expensive gold sinks. I asked for more sinks. You can't save for a big house, gear is trivially cheap, and no one will sell knowledge or lures for months as the drop rates are so low so they'll want them for their own characters or guildies. I agree with your point that the server is transient and you don't necessarily want things that will take forever to accomplish, but the server duration is one YEAR long; that's a long time for when in one month gold will be completely irrelevant.

    I don't play production - just like many others don't - so the point about just wanting some fun/rewards you can bring back to your production server is not applicable to a substantial amount of the population; rewards you can bring back with you *should* be an extra, not the point of New Legacy. The server needs to stand-alone on its own and have its own purpose, even if it is transient.

    I find it baffling that some of you don't outright agree. Maybe you've been playing more casually and still in the process of doing things that more optimised players accomplished in the first few days. You will, inevitably, come across my point that there is basically no purpose to gold and there aren't enough outlets to spend gold on. We NEED more ways to spend gold. I struggle to see how anyone disagrees that more/better housing would be beneficial and fun for everyone wanting to go down that avenue. Or decorations/cosmetics. None of it is mandatory, it's just extra content for those that can and want to.

    To be honest, I'm still spending all my gold on regs and arrows. As for no one selling lures for months, I'd suggest checking out the the houses on Ice. I don't remember the name, but 3 initials starting with G?

    He plays but did not get a premo spot like in Beta.  A couple screens away.  I went as fast as I could and ended up around the corner from Ice.  If someone wants the Ice tree.  It's by my house.

    Gold sink.  Bribe Smith BODs.  Cost 12k pretty quick since there are so few active NPCs.
