Does the SOS have to be in my bag or can it be in the ship hold?

When fishing them up...

Once it's marked on your map not sure it matters

I believe it needs to be in your pack.

I mark UOAuto map with 50 SOS spots and place them in a bag inside my backpack, never tried putting them in the ships hold.

I always hang onto them in my pack and watch them disappear as they are pulled up from the ocean. I don’t think it would work in the ships hold but try it out.

Taking an SOS out of a your pack can cause the pin to disappear from the map.

lol....so I was just fishing up some sunken treasure when I get distracted away from my computer and must have fished up a sea serpent or something because when I came back like a little later, I was dead and my corpse was gone.

After I got back on my ship alive, I tried out one of the next waypoints from the maps I had, and it did not work.  I lost a good amount of MiBs (2 ancient!) oh well : /
