There's no Elementals in The Volacano. There was some Fire Elementals before who dropped jewels.

Just wait some they spawn after the vulcano have erupted.

It needs a character in there to trigger the spawn.

if you are doing the quest at the village nearby.
get a shovel or pickaxe and target the ground.

if you are wanting the elementals to spawn,
just keep targeting the same location.
And when they spawn, make sure you pull them into the
round circle, where the lava can't get you.
(I always use the 2nd one to the left of the entrance)

also note, that when you get the message about the 
volcano being unstable, run to that circle. But stand just 
a few paces outside and one will spawn. As soon as it spawns
get into the circle.

sometimes you don't see the message about it becoming unstable, 
just keep an eye on the lava coming. You can outrun it, if you see
it in time

I was there ....

LAst year ... yeah that's the last time I went there, there was a lot of fire elementals gathering around the core makes it more challenging.
