can someone walk me through i have tried a couple times and must be doing something out of order??

    They have 2 magics, rune corruption, and bleed to begin with.  They are over capped on abilities basically.  So, you can not choose anything but a magic.

    Short answer, Choose Discord.
    Focus on what you can do, not what you can't.
