It seems my pets have become very weak in pvp indeed. Can we at least have them not lose skill points if killed by another player. They seem to be so easy to kill and still they lose skill points.

In PvP, use multiple pets or put more utility on the pet.  The damage cap can be worked around this way.  With a single 'uber' pet they'll hit infrequently for a low capped damage... Underwhelming.  Buuuut, if say you have a pair of spiders hitting, that doubles the damage already.  Add in some poisoning, bite, maybe a dismount or nerve strike, and now you're in business.  

To be even more off a butt, toss some tactics on or wrestle to disarm and let the pack go to town.  Added bonus, multiple pets make an amazing Stam wall.  You can exploit the hell out of this if you're also necro in wraith.  Also look for high dex pets, speed is life.
