Reforging is pretty simple. Take a runic hammer, pick the qualities and start hammering. But, if you want to squeeze every ounce of intensity out of what you are building, you need to have some knowledge. And it's not just reforging. You need to know how it interacts with imbuing and enhancing. Yes it's complicated, but it should be complicated if you are building a top end suit. IMO that one of the really good things that make UO stand out. In pretty much every other game, once you have the mats and the skills, all you need to do is to push a button to make one of relatively few pre-defined recipes. There is no craft involved in crafting. UO's system requires the player to have actual skill (represented by knowledge in this case) to do the best work. IMO, that is how it should be. And learning these things is part of game play as well.
