EC: crashes and hangs at rifted crown catapults stage

Publish 120:  Rifted Crown Mistas Catapults stage.

The EC hangs and will eventually crash when the large quantity of fire columns are triggered by catapult hits.

To avoid crashing, you have to stay far away from the catapult impact point.

This "fire column" is also used at some EM events, and also leads to EC hangs and crashes.

    15:19:08 EST
    (June21)

    Crash address in code, per windows event log:
    0x47d33c

    Close location of player at time of crash:
    Ilshenar, north of catapults area, x=821, y=1159

    Shard name via PM.

    The hang is simliar to what you see at this link.
    In other words, it seems like a large number of objects with properties (large quantity of fire columns) may be implicated.

    He is probably talking about this:
    Lots of stuff going on.  Crowd size like an EM event.
    Can be more than 1 catapult hitting at the same time.

    My advice is to remedy the below linked issue, as it's very easy to reproduce, and it's a long known issue that other players have also hit (see comments at the link).  It appears to be a problem where a large number of objects/properties causes the UI to hang.  

    In the case of the shadowguard "bar" room, it appears to be related to the large number of carpet and other objects in the room, when they are first "painted".

    There's a work-around to prevent the hang/crash at the catapult stage, in EC:
    User Settings -> Graphics -> Particle Filter -> None (then apply).

    You will no longer see the "Fire Columns" (or many other effects), and the client will not hang/crash at the catapult stage near the bridge/wall.

    Unfortunately, you'll need Particle effects re-enabled for some variants of the Boss, like the Veilkeeper, as seeing the fire columns in an indicator of when to pull back.

    Yeah, Ankou crashes me at least once per session, but I need to keep the particles going.  May start turning it off though and rely on running away when everybody else runs away.

    Hello Broadsword,

    Is this going to be investigated and remedied soon?
    I note there is a reliable repro of a problem, which also impacts most EM events.
    I also note the current event ends in the not distance future, so good to look at this now.

    Have all crashed me at least once in the past 5-6 days. Ankhou crashed me twice,  the solution is probably to turn off particle effects, but I sometimes rely on those to know when to run.

    Thank you.  I had a rash of crashes last night relating to the commanders/boss mentioned, which was out of the ordinary (normally only one or two crashes in an evening ) notably two apiece to Draal and Zynthar. Nothing major other than I didn’t get drops one time and I died a couple of times.  

    The event ends in 6 weeks (would be great if they kept it going longer) so I don’t even consider fixes to be a priority. 

    I can’t pin it to hardware other than general particle effects because it has happened on an Intel ultrabook with Intel graphics when I’m away from home, and at home, on an AMD desktop with an NVIDIA RTX 2060, two vastly different systems.
