New Race Poll

While I understand the devs are busy with NL and the current event, I thought I'd make a thread completely about additional races for players in the future. More options is always nice.

I voted none only because of how poorly gargoyles have it

The F you mean how poorly garg have it.. they got sexy wings.. my human characters should all be elf in 2025.. even the mule since the "extra weight" only apply at 96% for equip items... do you like more of nothing? be human!  :|

At least i'm no elf imbuer.. long live the garg!  B)
Plus human ain't looking badass while sitting on a bench.. unlike the garg.. o.O
So rather than recognise the effort the botters went to, to set all that up - for the benefit of the players, to help get certain items, something you could never be bothered to do, you would rather drag people backwards to your neanderthal world?

Leave attended paying accounts alone, these people go thru a lot of trouble to play/automate the game.

Fuzzies were looking dope during the conception of UO2.. high octane lil *ucks; spin jumping all over the place.

While I understand running gargoyles can be a burden, especially due to the lack of a true ear slot, I think it adds depth to the game. I think a new race, particularly Orcs, would offer an opportunity to also take lessons learned and move forward.

Every day is an opportunity to learn from the lessons of the past by fixing bugs and improving the game as it is instead of splitting the baby more and more.

The problem with gargoyles is more fundamental than just the earring slot. Gargoyle gear bloats the loot table, makes vendor search horribly convoluted, is full of weird caveats with respect to altering, and presents a burden of doubling any and all items that may ever be introduced. But it’s okay because you can spend real money to change your race, unlike elf or human which has a quest.

I’m not against races in Ultima Online, and I think dipping into Ultima lore with Gargoyles was really interesting, but I just don’t think any new race would be done well.

Certainly fair points on the issues with the loot table and altering. Of course, they could make it so orcs can wear gargoyle stuff, like elves to humans -- but that carries over its own issues, such as the earring slot.

There is certainly a risk for a potential new race to not be well-done. The easiest, and I don't know why I didn't include it, would simply be adding derivatives, like undead, dark elves, etc. This would give more options for racial bonuses and allow a backdrop to building/utilizing more lore.

I think the EC facial choices are as close to orcs as we're gonna get
