Ahoy! To celebrate the defeat of the Pirates of Shrouded Sails, the City of Britain is hosting an original sea shanty contest on Friday, July 26, at 7 pm Pacific time. The contest will be held in East Britain, at The Unicorn's Horn - cross to the east side of town and then turn south; you'll find the tavern at the water's edge. The barkeep's name is Grog.

Rules: Shanties submitted for the contest should be your original words. You may borrow a tune from an existing song if you like; that's a common practice for shanty singers.

To enter: Write your shanty in a book, with the title of the song as the title, and the songwriter's name as the author. Copy your lyrics into the book's pages and then bring your books to the contest on Friday July 26, or reach out to Governor Brightstar ahead of time if you can't make the event itself. All songs will be sung in the tavern provided they do not violate the terms of service. You may enter as many songs as you like, and you need not be present to win.

Prizes in gold will be offered to the winners! The top shanty will earn its songwriter 50m, but there may be other awards of merit!

Free drinks and food will be provided to all attendees. See you Friday at The Unicorn's Horn!

-Governor Brightstar

Notes: if your book is not sealed when delivered, a red leaf will be used to seal the book so that it may not be altered by anyone.

Books may be returned to the songwriters at the end of the event, but all songs will be copied into a commemorative book of shanties that will be available to anyone who'd like a copy of them. A copy of the shanty book will be placed in the library at The Song and Lantern Tavern at the crossroads near the Compassion Desert. Each songwriter will be credited with the name given in their submission book(s).
