Make Number gump selection is not functional for (all?) Cooking recipes

1. Get a skillet
2. Get many fish steaks
3. Use the skillet near a heat source and click the button to the right of fish steak
4. Select Make Number and enter a number that is fewer than the total
5. Observe all fish steaks are depleted

The notes of the recipe say it will make as many as possible, but this renders the Make Number option non-functional. This can lead you to burn all your ingredients if you're looking to make one at a time while you skill up.

That feature is not exclusive to cooking, there are other instances where as many as possible are made. Cannonballs off the top of my head.
