What does this mean???

I was shopping and spend my hard earned gold on Atlantic.  I was trying to purchase a Archfiend  head and got this message: "You can not purchase this item because it would exceed the amount gold this vendor can hold".   What does that mean?  Does it mean someone is selling stuff and not emptying the gold off the vendor?  Basically using the vendor for gold storage?   Why is this allowed?

Yes a Vendor can only hold so much gold.
The event was not that long ago.  If you sell power scrolls like 120 Tactics and others pets use, your vendor can fill fast.

Or the person took a break and has not checked that vendor.
