You can do that. Just stay in the upper part of the dungeon away from the champ area. You can (and I have) get drops killing the cursed ones, zombies, skeletons and spectral armor without going near the more dense mobs of the champion spawn.

Why? Caddellite allows you to damage the mobs, so we have it on weapons, spellbooks, musical instruments and pet treats. That covers all play styles. Why would we need to put it on armour too?
