    Royal Britannian Guard Information

The Royal Britannian Guard (RBG) are the defenders of the Crown and the Britannian way of life. They are charged by King Blackthorn with defending the kingdom, and often the entire world, from criminal elements and the forces of evil alike.

Royal Guardsmen comprise individuals from every walk of life and facet of Sosaria.

Those wishing to join the ranks of the RGB should present themselves to Sir Benjamin Travis, Commander of the Royal Britannian Guard,  when he calls for a muster in the courtyard of Castle Blackthorn.

    RBG Ranks

There are fourteen ranks within the guard hierarchy, each more difficult to achieve than the last.  Only actions performed during a muster will count towards your progression through the ranks*.

    Recruit
    Squire

    Companion-at-Arms
    Sergeant
    Staff Sergeant
    Sergeant Major
    Knight
    Knight Lieutenant
    Knight Commander
    Knight Marshal
    Under-Marshal
    Marshal
    Turcopolier
    Champion of the Codex

(As of August 29th, 2018 all guard ranks have been reset to Recruit and progression restarted.)

Various actions will increase your standing with the RBG, most notably is submitting Guard Reports after each muster. Competing in training exercises or recovering valuable information will also increase your standing.

However, subversive actions against the interests if Britannia such as aiding an enemy may result in a loss of standing, including possible demotion.

*Non-RBG events will not increase your standing.

    What is a guard report?

A guard report is an in-game book that your character writes.

It contains information about things that are occurring in the world: a recent guard related event or aspects of the event, strange occurrences which shouldn’t be happening such as the tree near the First Bank of Britain being on fire, or RP related information.

What is the point of a guard report?

It helps build a deeper understanding of what is happening in the game.  It gains the character that writes the books Guard Standing, which will help you get a promotion.

    Where are they submitted?

The Royal Guard training house. There is a suit of armor in front of Castle Britannia’s bridge which will teleport you there (double-click). You walk into the house and then find the mailbox, and drop the book off.

You may also turn them in at the Hall of Champions in Malas or hand them directly to Sir Benjamin Travis at the end of an event.

You can turn in a report up to two weeks late.

    Example:

    Title: Guard Report
    Author: Character Name*

Wednesday July 20, I found a strange portal which when you move around it slows you down. This portal is located by the Skara farms, the first ones if approaching from the dock.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

You will be one small step closer to becoming promoted within the guard’s ranks.

    * This is the character who will receive credit.

    Royal Council Primer

This was adapted from EM Benu’s Atlantic Primer for the Conseil du Roi.

1: The role of Governor is an In-Character position. That means if you are a governor, you are expected to roleplay the position and act as you would if your character were governor.

Citizens attending a meeting are also asked to remain in character as well.

The King will never, ever, ever break character. What this means is, anything you say to the King is said to the King, and the King will answer, act and respond as King Blackthorn would, and should. If you say something to the King out of character (OOC), at best the King will ignore you.

When you address the King, you are talking to the King, you are not addressing your shard’s EM.

2: Governors serve at the pleasure of the King. If you cannot stay in character, constantly cause disruptions, or fail to do your duty as governor the King has the ability to replace you.

3: The purpose of the Council is not to decorate the towns or place trash cans at the banks*. The King is not an interior decorator, nor is he a gardener, or a trash collector.

Governors may submit two large-scale requests per term to be considered by the King and his advisers. If your request is denied it will not count against you. However, failure to meet any stated requirements may result in forfeiture of the request.

All requests must have a roleplay function that benefits the whole community. It is strongly suggested that you structure one or more events around the request.

4: If you are called upon by the King to speak, please keep your remarks somewhat brief.

5: Trade deals, and how towns are governed are the business of the governor and the townspeople. The King will not dictate a city’s trade deal.

6: The Flow of the meetings:

    • The King welcomes attending governors and citizens, calls the meeting to order and notes any prearranged absences.
    • The King may address notable Sosarian events or matters of security.
    • Each governor is invited to give a status report for their town.
    • The King will respond to events and issues raised by the governors.
    • Any foreign dignitaries or kingdom officials may address the Council.
    • Citizens may address the Council.
    • Adjournment.

7: All Towns are equal in the eyes of the King. There is no city that the King holds above another.

8: The Council is a way for you as a player to interact with the fiction, storylines and the community of Lake Superior in a healthy and productive way. It is not a venue to discuss bugs, gameplay issues or air grievances with UO.

*If your town’s bank needs a trashcan, email Mesanna directly

    Miscellaneous Information

    Vacant Seats:

If a city does not have a governor elected by its citizens, the King may appoint a citizen to the position should they step forward.

    Such a citizen most be:

    • Already loyal to the town they wish to represent
    • Retain a loyalty rating of Adored
    • Be accepted by at least half the currently seated governors
    • Have no history of disrupting community, EM or global events

    Removal of a Governor:

Repeated failure to attend monthly meetings*, not engaging their citizens (events) or excessive drama (IC or OOC) may be cause for removal at the King's discretion

*Please send an email (emthrixx@gmail.com) if you will be unable to attend a Council meeting.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Where can the wedding be held?
The wedding can be on any facet, in any location you both are able to get to. You are responsible for the safety of your guests.

Will you decorate for the wedding?
If a wedding is not in a player house, we can decorate the site. We usually use lanterns, candles, and/or flower petals. If the couple provides flowers, we’ll lock those down in the location and return them after the wedding.

How long can the ring inscription be?
Approximately seventy-seven characters, including punctuation and spaces.

    What vows can we use?

    Player Memorials

There are two ways to create a memorial for a player who has passed away.

    Private Memorial

The Primeval Lich Champion gives six different styles of headstones. These can be engraved with the statuette engraving tool, which is available from NPC tinkers. You can then lock them down in your house for a private memorial.

    Public Memorial

You may request that an EM place a memorial in a public place. Please email with the information below. I will work with you to create a fitting memorial. Please keep in mind that the EM must send the memorial request to Mesanna for final approval before placing the headstone.

    Please include:

    1. The name of the player who has passed away.
    2. Requested date for placement of the memorial.
    3. Preferred Location. It must not block housing, cannot be in an NPC town, and should be near the house of a friend or guildmate.
    4. The text you’d like engraved on the memorial. The memorial may have up to five lines of text, each approximately seventy-seven characters long, including punctuation and spaces.
    5. We can lock down flowers and plants by the headstone. Any other decoration will be subject to approval.
    6. The headstone you’d like. Please choose from the picture below and specify whether you’d like it to face East (as pictured) or South.
    7. Whether you would like the headstone in its natural hue or shaded an appropriate color.

    Soulstone Graveyard

Lake Superior residents have graciously taken it upon themselves to preserve soulstones found in collapsed houses so that returning players might recover them.

The soulstone graveyard in Malas has become a sprawling testament to community spirit.

The graveyard can be found on the island north of the Hall of Champions at 42° 42’N 45° 29’W, covering most of the island.

Currently, there is no way to search the stones and most are in no particular order (though they may be moved to vendors for easier searching in the future).

    Drop Off:
Kind citizens are welcome to leave found soulstones in the mailbox of the Soulstone Groundskeeper’s House (currently a small marble workshop) on the island, or in the mailbox at the Hall of Champions.

    Claiming:
If you find your stone here, you must email the EM with the coordinates of the stone(s) and then meet them in game with at least one of the owner characters (must be on the correct account).
